Tae Kwon Do is a martial art developed in Korea which incorporates a variety of kicking, punching and self-defense techniques. The origin of Tae Kwon Do can be traced as far back as the Koguryo Dynasty, which was founded in 37 BC.
The Meaning of Tae Kwon Do is:
- Tae - To kick or strike with the foot
- Kwon - To punch or strike with the hand
- Do - The way, art or study of
In 1973, at the 1st World Tae Kwon Do Championship in Seoul, South Korea, representatives from the participating 19 countires established the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF). Today, there are 145 member countires of the WTF, and the global Tae Kwon Do population is estimated at 40 million people. Spurred by the popularity, Tae Kwon Do is rapidly becoming an international sport, and was first recognized as an official Olympic Sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Austrailia.
What is Hap Ki Do?
Hap Ki Do is a martial art, also developed in Korea, based on the fundemental offensive and defensive techniques which indule joint locking, striking, punching, kicking and throwing. The more completely recorded history of Hap Ki Do dates back as early as Sam Kuk Si Dae (The Era of the Three Kingdoms, 3 AD) in Korea. The Meaning of Hap Ki Do is:
